There’s a poignant exchange in Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona when Cristina, played by Scarlett Johansson, confesses, “I can appreciate art and I love music, but it’s sad, really, because I feel like I have a lot to express and I am not gifted.” I once felt like Woody Allen’s passionate yet lost character – that was, until I found journalism.
Just like Allen’s character, I have a great appreciation and passion for arts and culture. I discovered my talent for telling stories through media and found I could use those passions as inspiration for my journalistic endeavors. Arts and culture can provide us the very content and color of our lives, illustrating our character and dreams, like that of a painting or a novel – or, in my case, a carefully constructed mix CD.
Music is one of the greatest expressions we have, whether a form of catharsis for musicians or a vehicle for listeners to experience their own feelings or to serve as a soundtrack to an incredible night out. I use journalism to tell the stories of the artists, the songs, the fans, the industry and the culture of music. Please peruse my portfolio to see some of my work, including feature articles, reviews and profiles. This blog is a place to keep my collection of stories as well as to post short music news items, reviews, anything I find interesting in the music world and maybe some essays.
In addition to music, I love all forms of arts and culture and including books and film (I have a minor in cinema studies), and I may occasionally post on those other interests.
