UPDATE: According to Billboard.com and Bloc Party’s website, even though three out of the four members of the band are recording new music and auditioning singers, Bloc Party is “still Bloc party.” Billboard reports, “The band has denied any major lineup changes, posting an update titled ‘Bloc Party is still Bloc Party’ on its official website that includes a picture of the four members in cartoon form, with the caption, ‘See you soon.’ And Okereke reportedly blogged today that “A big part of me is laughing HARD at all of this but another part of me is all like WTF?”

British singer Kele Okereke’s fears appear true. Bloc Party confirmed they started recording without him and plan to audition new singers.
Last week Okereke told NME he saw Russell Lissack, Gordon Moakes and Matt Tong rendezvous outside a rehearsal studio before going in together. Okereke said he was “a bit too scared to ask” what was going on and that he hadn’t spoken to the band in a while.
Today, NME reported the band the rumors are true. In an interview with NME, Lissack said Okereke’s been busy doing solo stuff and the band wanted to go ahead and start making more music. However, he said there are no bad feelings between the band and Okereke.
“The other three of us wanted to meet up and make music.” Lissack told NME. “We were talking about just doing an instrumental thing, but now we might get a singer as well, to properly put some music out and play some shows.”
