British rock band Bloc Party thrilled fans last Christmas when a TwitPic showed the band (plus an adorable puppy) back together after a hiatus. More good news followed earlier this year in April when NME and The Guardian confirmed the guys were working on their fourth album. However, lead singer Kele Okereke now says he has no idea what’s going on and may have been fired.
In an interview with NME, Okereke said he saw Russell Lissack, Gordon Moakes and Matt Tong rendezvous outside a rehearsal studio before going in together. Okereke says he wasn’t invited.
“I hope I haven’t been fired,” Okereke told NME. “I don’t really know what’s going on, because we haven’t really spoken recently and I’m a bit too scared to ask.”
Since the band took a break in 2009, the members have worked on various side projects. Okereke released his debut solo album The Boxer in June of 2010, and his new EP The Hunter comes out October 31.
In May of 2010, rumors spread that Okereke split from the band after he referred to the Bloc Party song “Flux” as “a song by a band I used to be in.” However, he quickly refuted the accusations, saying he was not leaving the band. But has the band left him?
